9 Months

Yikes! I have had no time for blogging lately! Before I forget (and before I post for 10 months) I better get this one done. I know someday I'll be glad I did...

Rose has a continually evolving personality. She can be a real drama queen and she is the busiest baby I've ever seen! Very independent and she seems to love learning new things. She's learning that she does not like it when we take something from her grip. Seriously, 9 months is waaaay too young for tantrums to start!! The nice thing is it takes a couple seconds and a distraction to change her mindset. I think this one will give us a run for our money when she's older.

She's also the most smiley baby I've ever seen. Don't get me wrong, she has fussy moments and the occasional days where whining is all we hear, but for the most part she is a happy girl and will even give us what we call her "courtesy smile" when she's exhausted but wants to appease us, ha!

I miss the little baby stages  but it is fun seeing her grow and develop into a little girl. Almost time to get her first birthday party planned. How is that possible!!? Love this girl so darn much.

9 Months
Weight: 19 lb 8.5 oz (68%)
Length/height: 28.5" (78%)
Head Circumference: 47.3 cm (100%)
Diaper Size: Size 3
Clothing Size: Depends on the brand! She still fits in some 9 month pants, otherwise she's generally in 12 month clothes and some 18 months
Milestones: A regular sippy-cup drinker, she's now crawling everywhere (and she's fast!!). She does still stand often but not taking steps on her own yet. She can wave "bye-bye" and is a big flirt with other kids/people at restaurants, the mall, etc.  She doesn't seem to like solid pieces of food (ie: cheerios, puffs, etc) but we're trying them. The pediatrician assured us this is quite normal and every baby is different. Soon we will be on to bigger & better foods! She likes to say "dadadadada" often and occasionally lets out a scream just to hear her own voice. I swear one day I heard her repeat "bottle" as I was preparing one with her in my arms. Probably not, but maybe!

And now, for the photo bomb and the elephant pic...

8 Months

I'm posting this and Rose is already over 8 months old. Time flies! She is really becoming her own little person as each month progresses. She gets frustrated/impatient when we make a bottle or prepare a sippy cup in front of her (so we've learned not to do this!). This also happens when we don't let her play with things like the remote control. She clenches her fists, closes her eyes, and lets out a mean little growl. Uh oh... Hopefully this is just a phase!!

She's also decided she hates being strapped in - the car seat, stroller and high chair. Well, too bad! I've found singing to her helps bring down the crabbiness. It's quite 'fun' trying to get out the door with a baby arching her back, crying and pulling her hands away...

She is also very sweet. Rose likes to tilt her head forward and touch something/someone with her forehead as a sign of affection. Occasionally she will do her version of a hug. Lately with a few colds she's had, she has tricked us into thinking we were getting a nice hug, only to find out we were just being used as a big snot rag. Ah, unconditional love. :)

Crazy to think this girl will be walking- soon! What happened to my newborn!? It goes way too fast.

8 Months
Weight: 18.5 lb
Length/height: 27"
Diaper Size: Size 3
Clothing Size: 9-12 months
Milestones: Still practicing with the sippy cup and starting to tilt her head back to get water. Prefers standing over attempts at crawling. She is getting better at moving from left to right/right to left while holding onto something, without tripping up her feet. She started to do a 'real' crawl on 9/30/12. A big climber, she has also mastered pulling herself up and usually is able to sit back down- slowly.

Somewhere I have her photo with the elephant... When I find it, I'll add it to the end!

7 Months

I'm a tad behind in posting this (like over a month), but better late than never! I started the post when she was actually 7 months but life has been slightly busy and I'm just now adding the photos to it. :)

Life with Rose is fun every day- even on the 'not so fun' days... She is rapidly learning and growing before our eyes. She still sleeps through the night although occasionally she wakes up fussing around 3:00 am. Usually she puts herself back to sleep, but not always. She seems to have found her whine noise and uses it quite frequently. It's tough to tune that sound out but we try! It's clear the whining is when she is frustrated because she either wants something she can't have or she wants to get herself from point A to point B but doesn't know how. Overall she is still one happy baby!

7 Months
Weight: 17 lb
Length/height: 27"
Diaper Size: Size 3
Clothing Size: 6-9 mos
Milestones: Started using her sippy cup, sits up well on her own, all of the time, will stand up while holding onto things like the couch, table, etc.

Sitting Bug

Just a quick post to share some pics from this week out on our front lawn. The little bug is Rose, sitting up by herself! She's been at this for a couple weeks now and is finally figuring out the whole 'balance' aspect of sitting. I was cleaning out her clothes drawers, packing away size 6 month items that she's outgrown and found these pants & hat. It's been too hot for the pants and hat but this week we have had some nice, cooler evenings. The hat barely fits her big head but she's so stinking cute I couldn't resist!

6 Months

Sometimes I miss our tiny little newborn - it seems like we hardly had time to hold her and she's all grown up! Ok, not going off to college yet but man, she is SO BIG! It's fun watching her learn new things and knowing that she recognizes us makes it even more amazing. I love it when I walk in the door after a day at work and she smiles with a huge grin and kicks her feet out of excitement. At this stage she is starting to realize when we walk out of the room for a short moment. She cries then is quiet as soon as she sees us again. She also likes to be held and walk around which is new for us. I bought a new carrier which should help save our backs a little. I think this phase will be short because before we know it she'll either be crawling or walking around, chasing us. :)

This summer has been SO DARN HOT and humid that we haven't been able to take Rose outside as much as we'd like to. As she becomes more aware of her surroundings we're finding challenges in keeping her entertained while at home. I'm looking forward to taking her back to the zoo now that she's a little older and interested in EVERYTHING she sees. I know she'll really enjoy it, so we'll be going soon!! In the mean time, we try to keep cool at the pool, lake, (anywhere that is not hot). The plus side of the hot weather- the water is warm enough to make Rose comfortable for swimming. She appears SO happy in the water. She usually loves her baths but the pool is so different. She's a little fish!

I can't believe she had her 1/2 birthday already. In six more months we'll be celebrating her first birthday. Unbelievable how fast time flies.

Six Months
Weight: 16 lb 14.5 oz (66.28%)
Length/height: 26.5" (74.44%)
Head Circumference: 45.2 cm (97.48%)
Diaper Size: Size 3
Clothing Size: 6 months & 6-9 mos
Milestones: Starting to eat more solid foods besides rice cereal & oatmeal. She seems to like carrots and squash and applesauce in the morning. She now makes a growly grunting noise and pants like a dog when she gets excited! Sits up unassisted for brief periods (longer with each passing day). She likes to spit/blow bubbles which is cute except when she's eating!! Playing in her excer-saucer  is a riot- she's a crazy jumper! Claps her hands (so cute!) and when I say, "ready, up" and take her by her hands she now goes up on her feet instead of a sitting position. Daddy holds her up by the coffee table and she holds on to the edge unassisted. I'm starting to think she'll walk before she crawls! No crawling yet but she really has a determined look on her face. She seems to be very close!!

Here are some of my favorites from Rose's 6 mo photo shoot!

First time sitting in the grass on her own- I couldn't get her to look up! Then her bud Maggie (yellow lab) joined for a picture.

She seems to like putting her arm up; she does this in her car seat too, like she's just sitting back & relaxing.

She discovered new noises with her mouth- messy noises, but so cute!

I love this photo because it reminds me of her behavior during the shoot. I handed her the flower bouquet and she held it awhile then set it aside, as if to say she was finished with it. She stood it upright and I snapped the photo just after, as her hand let go. Tim & I laughed because the flower stayed like that!
