Sitting Bug

Just a quick post to share some pics from this week out on our front lawn. The little bug is Rose, sitting up by herself! She's been at this for a couple weeks now and is finally figuring out the whole 'balance' aspect of sitting. I was cleaning out her clothes drawers, packing away size 6 month items that she's outgrown and found these pants & hat. It's been too hot for the pants and hat but this week we have had some nice, cooler evenings. The hat barely fits her big head but she's so stinking cute I couldn't resist!

6 Months

Sometimes I miss our tiny little newborn - it seems like we hardly had time to hold her and she's all grown up! Ok, not going off to college yet but man, she is SO BIG! It's fun watching her learn new things and knowing that she recognizes us makes it even more amazing. I love it when I walk in the door after a day at work and she smiles with a huge grin and kicks her feet out of excitement. At this stage she is starting to realize when we walk out of the room for a short moment. She cries then is quiet as soon as she sees us again. She also likes to be held and walk around which is new for us. I bought a new carrier which should help save our backs a little. I think this phase will be short because before we know it she'll either be crawling or walking around, chasing us. :)

This summer has been SO DARN HOT and humid that we haven't been able to take Rose outside as much as we'd like to. As she becomes more aware of her surroundings we're finding challenges in keeping her entertained while at home. I'm looking forward to taking her back to the zoo now that she's a little older and interested in EVERYTHING she sees. I know she'll really enjoy it, so we'll be going soon!! In the mean time, we try to keep cool at the pool, lake, (anywhere that is not hot). The plus side of the hot weather- the water is warm enough to make Rose comfortable for swimming. She appears SO happy in the water. She usually loves her baths but the pool is so different. She's a little fish!

I can't believe she had her 1/2 birthday already. In six more months we'll be celebrating her first birthday. Unbelievable how fast time flies.

Six Months
Weight: 16 lb 14.5 oz (66.28%)
Length/height: 26.5" (74.44%)
Head Circumference: 45.2 cm (97.48%)
Diaper Size: Size 3
Clothing Size: 6 months & 6-9 mos
Milestones: Starting to eat more solid foods besides rice cereal & oatmeal. She seems to like carrots and squash and applesauce in the morning. She now makes a growly grunting noise and pants like a dog when she gets excited! Sits up unassisted for brief periods (longer with each passing day). She likes to spit/blow bubbles which is cute except when she's eating!! Playing in her excer-saucer  is a riot- she's a crazy jumper! Claps her hands (so cute!) and when I say, "ready, up" and take her by her hands she now goes up on her feet instead of a sitting position. Daddy holds her up by the coffee table and she holds on to the edge unassisted. I'm starting to think she'll walk before she crawls! No crawling yet but she really has a determined look on her face. She seems to be very close!!

Here are some of my favorites from Rose's 6 mo photo shoot!

First time sitting in the grass on her own- I couldn't get her to look up! Then her bud Maggie (yellow lab) joined for a picture.

She was very intrigued with the landscape lighting!

This is so Rose right now- monkey feet, toes grabbing at everything!

She seems to like putting her arm up; she does this in her car seat too, like she's just sitting back & relaxing.

She discovered new noises with her mouth- messy noises, but so cute!

I think she looks so much older here!

I love this photo because it reminds me of her behavior during the shoot. I handed her the flower bouquet and she held it awhile then set it aside, as if to say she was finished with it. She stood it upright and I snapped the photo just after, as her hand let go. Tim & I laughed because the flower stayed like that!
